Olga Pastekova

Hello, my name is Oľga Paštéková and I come from Slovakia.
In the days of quarantine I worked on some paintings that are part of a bigger cycle, called “In Wonderland”. I have been always fascinated by forgotten places or distroyed buildings that are left to their fate. The inspiration for this project came from Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The whole area was flooded and wild animals (crocodiles, snakes, racoons, wild bees) began to inhabit the abandoned park attractions. It’s like “In Wonderland”, that’s why I called the new series like that. I consider the whole cycle as apocalyptic scenes, which may be an expression of a sense of concern. They are based on anxiety or concern about what is happening to Nature. People drastically plunder Nature. Can Nature deal with it?
